Greggs opens its first drive-thru

The bakery chain has opened its first Drive Thru in Manchester.

The new Greggs shop at Irlam Gateway Service Station on Liverpool Road near Salford will offer the highly anticipated service from Monday 5 June.

The menu will offer Greggs’ popular ranges including savouries and sandwiches, prepared throughout the day, as well as a wide range of freshly ground coffee and confectionary. Those looking for a lighter option can also enjoy the Balanced Choice range; a selection of wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, porridge and fruit - all for less than 400 calories.

The shop, which has created 25 new jobs in the area, is the retailer’s first Drive Thru concept while it trials technology. There are no further Drive Thru shops planned to open in the immediate future.

Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive for Greggs, said: “When it comes to food on-the-go, our customers tell us that convenience is key. We’ve been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs.

“A Drive Thru offers the ultimate convenience and seemed the logical next step for us to take. This is a first for Greggs and we are excited to trial the concept in Irlam, Manchester.”

Shop opening times are Monday – Friday 6am – 9pm, 7am-7pm on Saturday and 8am – 6pm on Sunday.

Irlam Gateway Service Station is owned by The Kay Group, one of the North West's leading petrol retailers.
