Buttered toast, egg sandwiches, and sausage rolls are amongst them.
Researchers from Deliveroo looked into the lunch habits of the nation’s work force as part of their ‘lame lunch amnesty’, and found that 70% of the 1,500 workers they polled admit they are stuck in a lunch rut, with ham sandwiches emerging as the most likely midday meal they eat on repeat. Cheese sandwiches came second in the lunch stakes, while tuna came third and egg mayo came in fourth place.
Also, four in ten Brits admit they are jealous of colleagues who have interesting and varied lunches, however 16% said they can’t be bothered to do anything about it.
The research showed that a quarter of all employees eat their lunch at their desk, although 14% only venture outside when the weather is nice. A solitary one in twenty eat their lunch in their car every day.
Deliveroo’s managing director Dan Warne said, “This research highlights how many of the British workforce eat really boring, unimaginative meals for lunch on repeat.
“We’re launching our Lame Lunch Amnesty this Tuesday to inspire Brits to upgrade their lunches from soggy sandwiches to delicious restaurant food. We spend so much of our time sat at our desks, it’s good to mix things up and have something to look forward to at lunchtime.”
The top 25 most popular lunches are: Ham sandwich, Cheese sandwich, Tuna mayo sandwich, Egg mayo sandwich, Superfood salad, Spicy chicken wrap, Jacket potato with filling, Fish and chips, Leftover pasta dish, Caesar salad, Pasty, Prawn sandwich, Tuna nicoise salad, Tomato soup and roll, Microwave noodles, Just toast, Carrot and coriander soup and roll, Coronation chicken baguette, Bacon and Brie baguette, Minestrone soup and roll, Jumbo sausage roll, Cous cous salad, Curry, Beans on toast, and Duck wrap.
