QSR Automations launches a display system for busy kitchens

Anyone in or around restaurants has probably noticed an increase in advertising for ‘off-premise dining options’. That’s a fancy term for takeaway and delivery.

Off-premise options are great for busy restaurant customers who want the experience but can’t dine in at that time. The restaurant provides customers with a pick-up time, they make a quick stop, and dinner is complete with little impact on their hectic schedule. 

The majority of people working in the restaurant industry can probably appreciate the challenges of providing quotes directly from the Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS). Let’s be realistic – the EPoS doesn’t know what’s going on in the kitchen and it’s a misconception to think it can interpret operations back-of-house to provide accurate quote times. There is a smarter way and that’s the use of a kitchen display system!

CSK routes orders to kitchen stations where staff can prepare and package items based on the order destination. With a dynamic quoting feature, online customers receive a truly accurate quote time, creating an exceptional experience whether the customer orders takeaway or delivery.

Restaurants not currently using an integrated kitchen display system are generally using an EPoS-generated quote. This means items and orders route to the kitchen via a receipt or another video system. The customer receives an estimated quote that doesn’t consider how backed up the kitchen may be at that moment, forcing restaurants to generate ambiguous and inexact times.

QSR Automations’ kitchen quoting works so well because it is customisable to account for the destination and extra packaging time for takeaway and delivery orders. Most importantly though, CSK “considers” how busy the kitchen is at the precise moment a customer places an order, accounting for in-house orders, before generating a quote for off-premise sales.

Through the data CSK generates, restaurants can add a ramp-up time that factors in exactly how busy the kitchen is and add a few extra seconds to the quote based on current volume.

Off-premise dining is the wave of the future, and the future is now. Restaurants need to keep the momentum going and encourage guests either to dine in or take advantage of an off-premise solution that fits in with their busy day. Accurate, real-time quotes based on the kitchen display system should become the central point of any off-premise dining strategy to ensure guests receive the best and most reliable service.
