The move saved over 600 jobs.
Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) has confirmed it has acquired the Gourmet Burger Kitchen brand and 35 of its trading sites.
It is understood that the purchase, which saved over 650 jobs, was made through a pre-pack administration.
This is also BRG’s second acquisition in almost half a year, after absorbing Carluccio’s in May. Both brands, together with The Cinnamon Collection, Fishworks, Slim Chickens, Giraffe and Ed’s Easy Diner, giveBRG a 99-strong portfolio of restaurants nationwide with 32 franchised globally.
“This latest acquisition is in line with our strategy to grow our restaurant group with quality brands. Whilst it is an extremely challenging time for the sector, we believe quality hospitality businesses will recover in the long term as people return to eating out,” BRG managing director Satnam Leihal said in a statement.
BRG also confirmed it will continue GBK’s franchise partnership in the UAE.
GBK's previous owner, South Africa-based Famous Brands, had indicated that it would not provide further funding to support the burger chain’s UK operation.
