Restaurant groups clutch 17.1% delivery sales growth in June
This is driven by the cool weather and the Euros.
Restaurant groups in Britain have recorded the strongest growth in delivery sales in June post-COVID-19 restrictions, according to CGA by NIQ’s Hospitality at Home Tracker.
The like-for-like delivery sales in June were 17.1% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. This marks the second month in a row posting a double-digit increase, with May garnering an 11.3% YoY growth.
The cool weather has prompted some consumers to have food delivered to their homes instead of going out.
Restaurants' at-home sales were driven by the Euro 24 football tournament, with the evening schedule of the games making it prime time for ordering meals.
Moreover, weaker sales were seen in restaurants’ takeaway and click-and-collect, which were down YoY by 1.1% in June, showing consumers’ long-term shift away from pick-ups in favour of delivery to the door.
However, combined deliveries, takeaways and click-and-collect sales were up 9.7% on June 2023 – a 13-month expansion.
Deliveries accounted for 11.2 pence in every pound spent with restaurants in June, while takeaways attracted 4.4 pence.
