Franchising drives a third of Pret A Manger’s global sales in H1 2024
H1 2024 system sales across company-owned and franchise shops increased by 10%.
Franchising drove a third of Pret A Manger’s global system sales in the first half of the year.
H1 2024 sales across company-owned and franchise shops reached £569m, an increase of 10% compared to the year before, driven by Pret’s expansion into new markets.
£1 in every £4 spent at Pret is now outside the UK, with New York the second highest market in terms of sales for the chain after London.
In its recent Fully Year 2023 release, the group reported £1.1bn in global sales for the year, up 22% vs 2022. Same-store sales grew 15%, whilst Pret achieved its medium-term growth target set in 2021 of doubling the size of its business within five years, three years ahead of schedule.
Pret said it plans to expand its US business, opening 10 new shops on the East Coast by 2026. Meanwhile, Pret has agreed to a new partnership to open six new shops across Scotland and now has 10 shops across the island of Ireland. Since January 2023, 87% of new Pret openings have been outside of London.
“The fact that £1 in every £4 is now spent outside the UK is both an achievement and an opportunity for our business. It shows how big the appetite is from customers all over the world for Pret’s menu and our unique range of ingredients and recipes,” Pano Christo, Pret A Manger Chief Executive, said.
Pret currently has more than 690 shops and operates in more than 18 markets internationally including the UK, Ireland, US, Hong Kong, France, Dubai, Switzerland, Brussels, India, Germany, Italy and Portugal. In the UK, Pret has over 480 shops.
