Veganism, snacking among top food-to-go trends in 2018, IGD says
Consumers are now looking for more meals that "fit around" their lifestyles.
IGD has stated the top five food-to-go trends for this year which includes categories such as health and wellness, snacking and partnerships.
They mentioned that there is an increasing demand with high protein and gluten free solutions as consumers continue to look for vegan and vegetarian-friendly offerings.
Another trend they mentioned are the recent retail partnerships of QSRs with supermarket chains. Yo! Sushi and Bella Italia have both recently announced that they partnered with Tesco in offering ready-made meals and such updates are said to continue until 2019.
This is also linked to the snacking trend, where UK consumers are having more flexible meal patterns. IGD also said this is also worth incorporating with the veganism trend.
“For us, an important next step here is in how this snacking repertoire further combines with health and wellness. There’s a lot more scope to develop this as consumers increasingly look for meals that fit around lifestyles, rather than running their lifestyles around their meals,” IGD said.
