Deliveroo adds calorie labelling feature for takeaway orders
This will be rolled out globally to all restaurant partners across 13 markets.
Customers will now have access to the calorie information of offerings from restaurants that have partnered with Deliveroo.
In an announcement, the aggregator says the move was driven by their new polling indicating that majority of consumers wanted the feature and view calories as “most important nutritional information.”
“Deliveroo’s outlook is simple: the way to eat healthy is by having more information and more selection,” Will Shu, CEO and founder of Deliveroo, said. “Consumers should have amazing food whenever and wherever they want it, but Deliveroo wants to also enable customers to be aware of what they’re eating.”
Some of brands that already have calorie labels are Burger King, KFC, Pho, Jamie's Italian, YO! Sushi and Barburrito.
In addition, Deliveroo also partnered with nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert in creating a menu that features offerings that are low in fat, salt and sugar and high in fibre. They also mentioned that they have an upcoming major marketing campaign that highlights healthy options, partnering with gyms across the UK.
All restaurants who work with Deliveroo in the UK will NOW be able to add calorie information for each dish. Customers will be able to see the information by February.
The initiative will be rolled out globally to all restaurants Deliveroo works with in 13 markets across 2019.
