North Star Coffee Roasters opens first retail store at Leeds Dock
The retail store will feature Noisette Bakehouse next door to their onsite roaster and Coffee Academy.
After operating as a wholesale business for the past four years and supplying around 100 independent coffee shops and restaurants across the UK, North Star Coffee Roasters have opened their first ever retail location at Leeds Dock.
The new location features a coffee shop and general store which provide an advanced offering of specialty grade, ethically sourced coffee, freshly roasted at their on-site roastery. The offering incorporates a filter brew station with a regularly rotating menu of single origin coffees.
North Star also recently launched its new Spotlight range, which features some of the best quality coffee, whilst also highlighting one of the most important issues that the coffee industry faces today: the waste generated from disposable cups that are non-biodegradable. The innovative packaging for the new Spotlight range consists of a sleeve and box which are made using 50% recycled coffee cup fibre, meaning that they are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
These coffee offerings can be paired with a selection of freshly baked breakfast goods from the award winning and innovative micro-bakery, Noisette Bakehouse. With a strong focus on carefully curated, seasonal ingredients, their creations range from blueberry muffins to four cheese and rye scones to their Morning Cakeä.
The general store will showcase food and drink producers from across the world such as chocolate by Cocoa Runners, artisan peanut butter from Yorkshire’s-own Proper Nutty, ethical hand wash from The Soap Co, relishes and jams by Rubies in the Rubble, Keep Cup’s reusable cups, local honey from Stickeys, Storm Tea, Kokoa Collection’s award-winning hot chocolate, sourdough loaves from Leeds Bread Co-op and various coffee brewing equipment.
Next door to the on-site roastery is North Star’s purpose-built Coffee Academy, which is certified to deliver accredited Specialty Coffee Association courses to industry professionals from across the globe. It is one of just three spaces in the UK set up to deliver the full spectrum of Sensory Skills courses and will shortly be able to host the full range of Coffee Diploma courses.

The coffee shop will be a real neighbourhood spot providing a space for the local residents and office workers to come together – there will be something for everyone from a rotating coffee menu (roasted next door) to exclusive Noisette Bakehouse items baked onsite alongside a seasonal food menu and a short but select alcohol list. The general store element is a hugely important part of the offering and will be showcasing items from producers across the country whom we have worked with or admire,” said Holly Bowman, co-founder of North Star Coffee Roasters.
