Costa Coffee expects to reopen over 1,100 stores by end-June
This represents 41% of the chain’s national portfolio.
Costa Coffee has announced it will have over 1,100 operating on a takeaway and/or delivery basis by the end of this month.
Currently, the coffee shop operator has re-opened over 800 stores, which feature a reduced food offer.
Each store that has reopened has been equipped with protective equipment, hand sanitiser stations and operates with contactless payment only. High-quality perspex screens have also been installed at all counters in take-away stores, with designated pick-up points for delivery and mobile order collections.
To comply with social distancing guidelines, two-metre floor signs have been placed both inside and outside stores. Customers are now able to be served in their own reusable cups.
The plan also represents 41% of Costa’s national portfolio of 2,700 sites.
“We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback that we have received from our customers and are pleased to once again be able to serve them our signature, handcrafted coffee,” Costa Coffee chief executive Jill McDonald said.
More reopenings announced
The chain is one of many operators that have recently announced its updated store reopening plans, as the industry awaits the government’s announcement on the lifting of restrictions.
Itsu said it will start reopening branches on 26 June, starting with five branches.
Marks & Spencer said it has reopened a further 47 M&S Cafés that will offer takeaway, bringing the total number of cafés open to 95.
Honest Burgers announced its stores are now open for takeaway.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, is expected to announce a reduction in the two-metre social distancing rule.
