McDonald's planning to reopen all drive-thrus by early June

30 more outlets will resume trading this week.

McDonald’s has confirmed plans to reopen all of its drive-thrus by next month.

“Moving in step with government guidelines, we plan to reopen all our Drive-Thrus by early June. We will keep the restaurant locator on our website updated as our Drive Thrus reopen over the coming weeks,” McDonald’s CEO for UK and Ireland Paul Pomroy said in a statement.

This week will see the chain’s next phase of reopening a further 30 pilot restaurants in the teow markets, offering service through the drive-thru lane starting 20 May.

Last week saw 15 of its restaurants resume trading via takeaway and delivery.

The fast food giant’s announcement is the latest in a continued move by the industry to restart operations.

Starbucks also reopened 150 of its UK stores from 14 May after suspending in-store operations last March. Marks & Spencer has reopened 49 of its cafes following a trial in five of their in-store outlets whilst Costa Coffee announced the reopening of 46 of its sites.

200 Degrees Coffee’s Lincoln shop on Sincil Street also reopened for takeaway. EL&N’s Park Lane outlet also reopened for takeaway and delivery of its drinks and a selection of cakes.

Tonkotsu reopened its outlets in Haggerston, Notting Hill and Peckham, whilst its Stratford store is slated to reopen on 22 May.

Wasabi, meanwhile, opened its Ealing store for takeaway and delivery only last 13 May part of a phased programme of reopening over the coming weeks.
