McDonald's, Pret A Manger, Lush, Caffe Nero and Costa Coffee join Landsec's “Refill Me” initiative
Research reveals that 59% of shoppers doesn’t carry refillable bottles.
Some outlets of McDonald’s, Pret A Manger, Lush, Caffe Nero and Costa now allows free water refills as part of the “Refill Me” movement led by the property company, Landsec.
A study conducted by Landsec reveals that more than half of shoppers doesn’t bring refillable bottles.
59% of the respondents also says that they would hesitate to ask a store to refill their bottles without buying anything from them.
Tom Byrne, sustainability manager at Landsec, says that they are committed to spread the campaign across their 17.6 million sq ft portfolio by 2020.
“At Landsec, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously,” Byrne said.
“We were determined to help make it easier for shoppers to embrace sustainable practices. Wherever customers see our window sticker, they can ask for their bottle to be refilled without feeling pressured to make a purchase or embarrassed to ask,” he added.
The Refill Me campaign started last August 1 in 12 of Landsec’s shopping centres. It now involves 142 stores from 92 retail brands.
"Over the first week of the campaign, we’ve seen unprecedented levels of support from customers and retailers alike. Single-use plastic is one of the biggest challenges facing our planet; like other refill campaigns, we’re determined to play our part in ensuring that we drive change in the behaviours of shoppers and retailers,” Byrne said.
