Over 1,000 McDonald's outlets confirmed to reopen this week

It will still be offering a limited menu over reduced hours.

Over a thousand McDonald’s outlets in the UK and Ireland will already be open either for drive-thru or delivery by 4 June, the company confirmed in an update.

“This is only possible following the hard work of the teams in our 44 pilot restaurants. Over the last fortnight, our employees, franchisees and suppliers have worked tirelessly to implement new procedures to enable safe working so that we can now help all parts of the UK and Ireland to enjoy the return of the Big Mac,” a spokesperson for the fast food giant said.

The announcement echoes an earlier statement by McDonald’s to reopen all of its drive-thrus by this month.

With fewer employees working in their kitchens and service areas, McDonald’s also implored customers for their “patience and support as they continue to adjust to the new ways of working.”

“Face coverings, gloves, Perspex screens and new safety and hygiene processes mean it will look different, it will take a little longer and as we have seen in the pilot restaurants, we expect demand will be high. Please bear with us, we will continue to put our people first – their safety is our priority,” the spokesperson added.

McDonald’s will still be offering a limited menu over reduced hours, encouraging customers to contactless payments and limit spending to £25.

Other reopening announcements include Greggs, which has revealed plans to reopen 800 of its branches in mid-June.

Nando’s reopened a further 94 restaurants across the UK for delivery and collection.

Costa Coffee reopened an additional 97 stores, taking their total number of branches having reopened in the UK to 316.

Fast casual brand Chipotle also announced it reopened its Baker St and Islington restaurants and Battersea delivery-only digital kitchen.

Restaurants opening in Camden Market and Liverpool One will also be able to resume operations, following separate announcements that the two destinations are reopening this month.
