Starbucks Red Cup Cheer campaign offers £150,000 to charities

Social media savvy charities can compete to raise awareness for their cause and receive funding from Starbucks this Christmas with #RedCupCheer, which launched 3 November.

The Starbucks Christmas initiative is in partnership with social network neighbourly.com. Charities registered to take part by 15 November enter into a competition to create the most social media ‘noise’ through supporter awareness and engagement on Twitter and neighbourly.com, using the hashtag #RedCupCheer.

Activity is measured by neighbourly.com. The charities with the most social media support on 6 December will receive a Red Cup Grant of £1,000 while runners up are rewarded with £500 funding.

This year's campaign marks the second time Starbucks and Neighbourly have partnered on a Christmas community initiative following the success of last year’s activity which supported over 70 charities in 2014.

Nick Davies, Founder of neighbourly said: "Red Cup Cheer is a fantastic way for Starbucks to connect with projects close to the hearts of customers and colleagues in their local communities. neighbourly.com provides a space for projects to tell their story and share among friends and neighbours so that Starbucks can focus support where it's needed most. Good luck to all those participating."

Simon Redfern, communications director at Starbucks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “At Starbucks, we’re proud to support local causes and #RedCupCheer gives us the opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate the work of fantastic small charities at what is a difficult time for many.”
