Foodservice Price inflation rises to 9.3% in August

The Fish category stands out with an increase in prices.

Foodservice Price Inflation is 9.3% in August with some domestic issues, such as the difficulty of securing foreign labour.

According to Prestige Purchasing News, the Fish category stands out with an abrupt increase in prices compared to the month before – while Norwegian salmon prices are down, tuna prices are up in the marketplace as new, more restrictive quotas for this year look to be fulfilled more quickly than expected.

Sugar and cocoa prices have remained down compared to last year. Sugar prices could go down further, as EU controls on sugar beet come to an end at the start of October. Meat prices are also up year-on-year.

There is also the beginning of the Comprehensive Economic & Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada (CETA), which will eventually see additional supplies of red meat made available across the EU, once initial teething problems are solved.
