Absurd Bird to open second London site in Soho
The American South inspired chicken restaurant brand is opening a second site in Soho this August, located on Peter Street, opposite Berwick Street Market.
The 40-cover, two-storey restaurant will feature an open kitchen as well as an intimate basement bar and serves a range of Southern-inspired chicken dishes, using only ethically-sourced, additive and hormone-free chickens from Fosse Meadows Farm.
The menu features Absurd offerings such as Corn Bread Pudding, Buffalo Wings; Sweet Potato Bake; Spinach & Artichoke Dip; as well as Jalapeño Mac and Cheese. With the launch of Soho, some new additions to the menu are Waffle Cones with Popcorn Chicken and a selection of wraps packed with Southern punch. Drinks include: Absurd Moonshine; Absurd Lager, served direct from the Signature Brewery in Leyton, and a cocktail list by mixologists Soulshakers. The average spend at Absurd Bird is £20 per person dining in, £12 takeway.
The interior, designed by LSM, is a retro mix of yellow velvet banquettes, modern blue leather seats, dark wood panelled walls and zinc-topped tables. Into Lighting have used empty moonshine bottles for lighting.
“Our second London site, while different in many ways from our flagship in Commercial Street still retains its eclectic Southern menu with an interior exuding some old school Southern charm and we are confident it will trade well. Autumn launches planned for Exeter and Bath represent excellent regional opportunities for Absurd Bird, with prime locations in new dining quarters within high footfall shopping centres.’’ Mark Hall, Group Operations Director, said.
Splendid Restaurants are targeting a further 10 openings over the next five years.
