Sainsbury's £8mill challenge to grab and go operators
Developed with a focus on Food to Go.
Sainsbury's new flagship supermarket in Nine Elms, Vauxhall, South West London aims to offer customers one-stop-shop convenience.
CEO Mike Coupe said, "The trend towards shopping in convenience stores and online is well-documented, but supermarkets still take more than £1 in every £2 spent on groceries in the UK and will do so for the foreseeable future. Nine Elms is our vision for the Sainsbury's supermarket of the future - a true destination store for our customers, where they can get everything they need under one roof."
The store layour has been designed to make it convenient for customers to navigate. The new On the Go range is located near the checkouts, for customers who want to be in and out as quickly as possible. Food to Go is an increasingly important and growing market, worth £16.1 billion. Sainsbury's has this year invested £8 million in the quality and variety of its range, adding more sushi and snack options.
Customers can now enjoy the first Sainsbury's Foodhall with its newly-designed fish, fresh meat and deli counters, more open produce section, and bakery and patisserie.
As well as a Sainsbury's Cafe, Nine Elms is also home to the first Sushi Gourmet concession in the UK.
The new Nine Elms underground station, on the proposed Northern Line extension, is adjacent to the store and is due to open in 2020.
