Wimpy UK's return is a marathon not a sprint, says General Manager
Chris Woolfenden stresses it is “still early days”.
Wimpy UK’s general manager Chris Woolfenden said, “Wimpy was proud to be the first hamburger restaurant in the UK and the fact we are still a familiar face on the high street after more than six decades proves our worth and our place in peoples’ hearts. We have great franchise partners and our plan is that in the future, many more people will be able to enjoy dining in a Wimpy across the UK. We are currently updating many of our existing restaurants and, as always, are working to identify new locations and attract new franchisees to join the Wimpy family."
“However, it takes time to identify the right locations with the right franchise partners who will enable us to build on the continued success of the Wimpy name. We see this investment and refurbishment programme as a marathon, not a sprint - we aren’t looking to achieve overnight success, instead we’re taking a steady and thoughtful approach which befits such a much-loved heritage brand," he added.
Wimpy offers a different experience to other fast food outlets, and Woolfenden said the brand will continue that tradition.
“Most of today’s fast food outlets focus on the ‘grab and go’ culture, but when you go in to a Wimpy you sit down at your own table, you’re given a menu and are served by a waiter or waitress. Everything is cooked to order and we see ourselves as an oasis of calm, with good service and great taste - that’s our USP and that’s why we believe more people will still want to come back to a Wimpy.
“Further details of our plans will be shared next year and we look forward to many more customers being able to enjoy our smart new-look restaurants, delicious and affordable food, and personal table service," he concluded.
