Pret A Manger to close 17 U.S. shops
The chain previously announced the closure of 30 UK restaurants.
Pret A Manger is permanently closing some restaurants in the United States, citing massive decline in sales amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the Boston Herald reported.
“It was our intention to do everything we could to save jobs,” Pret CEO Pano Christou said. “It’s a sad day for the whole Pret family, and I’m devastated that we will be losing team members. But we must make these changes to adapt to the new retail environment.”
The sandwich chain said it will close 17 shops across Boston and Chicago, whilst those in New York, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia will remain open. Sales across Pret’s United States locations have toppled 87% year on year during the public health crisis.
