Five Guys reports £149.6m in UK sales

However, the chain’s UK and European businesses also posted widened losses due to their expansion in new markets.

Five Guys has reported UK revenue of £149.6m, up from £122m the previous period.

In its financial results for the year ended 31 December 2018, the restaurant group’s UK business reported operating profit of £5.8m, up on last year’s £5.1m.

The burger chain’s UK business, a joint venture between Dunstone and Five Guys’ US-based founders, increased its store network to 88 restaurants from 79 in 2018.

It also recorded a pretax loss of £3.9 million, compared to a £3.1 million loss a year earlier.

Across the UK and European businesses combined (Five Guys European Holdings), revenues rose to £207.2 million from £151 million.

However, it posted a £32.4m loss, higher than the previous period’s £19m due to costs linked to setting up and aggressively expanding in newer markets, such as France, Germany and Spain.
