Greggs concerned about potential impact of COVID-19 after “exceptional” 2019
They are also developing a programme aimed at increasing customer loyalty, choice and access across multiple channels.
Greggs has expressed concerns about the potential impact of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, after having an “exceptional” 2019.
The bakery chain reported its sales being up by 13.5% to £1.168 billion whilst pre-tax profits rose to £108.3 million from £82.6 million in 2018.
"We made a very strong start to 2020 in January, but in February saw a significant slowdown in sales growth as a result of the storm that have affected the UK," chief executive Roger Whiteside said in a trading update.
"There is some uncertainty in the outlook, particularly given the potential impact of coronavirus. This aside we expect to make year-on-year progress and will do so from a strong financial position."
Greggs has 2,050 shops trading as of 28 December 2019. They are currently rolling out a delivery partnership with Just Eat.
A 'Next Generation Greggs' programme aimed at increasing customer loyalty, choice and access across multiple channels is also in the works.
