Wagamama taps Morrama for new crystallised version of PET
The new packaging will be launched in October 2022.
Wagamama will soon roll out a new crystallised version of PET for its packaging in all its restaurants and delivery kitchens, with the help of Morrama, an industrial design and innovation consultancy firm.
In a statement, Morrama said the restaurant’s new packaging, which is recycled PET, is safe to use in food products. The shift will reduce up to 330 million tonnes of virgin plastic from Wagamama’s takeaway.
“Using a crystallised version of PET to bring additional heat resistance, Wagamama’s new packaging range is an industry first. Made from 70% recycled PET - the remaining 30% virgin plastic required for structural integrity - the packaging also remains 100% recyclable,” read the statement.
In the same statement, Wagamama customer director Kay Bartlett said, “We spent months exploring various options, trialling and testing different materials, and working with leading experts in these fields. Morrama truly understood our values and goals for this project, and helped us make it a reality.”
