80% of takeaways in profit due to Gen Z, millennials' digital ordering: study
Brits now spend £4.2bn a year on takeaway and delivery.
Eight out of ten of the top 100 takeaway concepts were profitable last year, compared to 65% of restaurant groups as consumers continue to opt for convenience and affordability.
McCain Foodservice Solutions’ ‘The Future Delivered’ report revealed that Generation Z and millennials have been driving the trend of digital ordering through third-party apps and voice-activated ordering.
The report also cited environmentally-friendly and efficient food delivery, emoji ordering, ordering via car, and minimising food waste through apps as some of the key trends that will ‘further grow’ the delivery sector.
“Delivery and collection now account for 24% of all out-of-home visits, so it’s vital that operators have access to products that stand up to this process, McCain Foodservice Solutions product manager Megan Cornelius said in a statement.
“65% of consumers say that a bad chip will negatively affect their overall view of an operator – making them less likely to order again,” she added.
McCain noted that Brits now spends £4.2 billion a year on takeaway and delivery, and that the delivery sector shall comprise 11% of the total hospitality market by 2022.
