Food delivery orders increased to 36% in past six months, study reveals
As food delivery grew, cooking at home dropped to 89%.
The proportion the proportion of people ordering food for delivery rose from 31% to 36% in the past 6 months, latest research from Deliveroo revealed.
Analysis by consumer insights firm Morar HPI also said that 46% of consumers are now placing orders via websites or apps, followed by a 36% increase on phone deliveries and a 18% growth on in-person deliveries.
“People are ordering delivery more and more because of busy lives and the increased options available. Getting something delivered is no longer a one-off treat, but an affordable solution full of healthy choices for more occasions; from breakfast to late night meals,” Deliveroo UK managing director Dan Warne said.
Results further show that 67% did their last delivery in front of the television while 18% sat at the table.
However, 76% of people still prefer to visit a restaurant after ordering food online. The number of people eating out remained stable at 60%.
“Customers still want the restaurant experience to socialise and celebrate, which is why eating out remains broadly stable. But when people spend the night at home, whether they are back late from work or are choosing a night in with a boxset, delivery means more opportunities for our restaurant partners. We our proud that our growth boosts others,” Warne added.
