Just Eat revenues soar 59% in H1

Just Eat announced its results for the first half of 2016, seeing the number of active users on the digital platforms increase to 15.9 million, and a 55% jump in orders to 64.9 million.

David Buttress, CEO, said, "All that translated to a great performance in our finances too, with revenues increasing by 59% to £171.6 million, while our profits hit £53 million – more than twice as much as in the same period last year."

"The team has been very busy developing new technology that will build on our existing platform. We hosted a day for city analysts and investors in June so they could get to know our business and people better. This gave us the opportunity to unveil some pretty exciting innovations, including new apps which make it possible for our customers to order direct through Apple TV and other smart TV devices. We followed this up with the news that we are about to begin trials with robots that can deliver food directly to our customers’ doors. We’re now excited to announce that we will be partnering with Xbox to bring food ordering into the gaming experience."

Buttress said that the company's restaurant partners will also see new technology services that will help them manage their businesses more effectively.

"The food delivery sector as a whole has been a fast moving place to be so far this year. We’ve always acknowledged that we operate in a competitive industry and I’m pleased to say that so far, our dedication to providing a great customer experience and expanding our services means that we have continued to thrive. It’s great that so many people are rediscovering a love of food through online ordering and that the total market for delivery continues to grow," he said.

"This growth is not just in the UK, but all over the world. In the first half of the year we acquired businesses in Spain, Italy, Mexico and Brazil, and these developing markets where we hold clear leadership positions are now demonstrating our fastest growth. So as we enter the second half of the year, we have much to be excited about. New offers, new technology and improved experiences for both customers and restaurants. We have developed a solid platform for future growth and we are determined to build on it."
