The fast food giant says it looks to introduce lighter lunch options.
McDonald’s UK and Ireland announced a revamp of its menu, introducing five new permanent items and their variants.
Starting 26 June, customers can avail of their new and improved Bacon Roll, lighter Chicken Salad. Their wrap range is also expanding with the new ‘The Hot Cajun Chicken One’, featuring chicken breast strips or grilled chicken with a Cajun sauce, Pepper Jack cheese, tomato, jalapeño slices and lettuce in a soft, toasted tortilla wrap.
Aside from lighter lunch options, the chain is also going lighter on packaging, announcing that it will remove all single-use plastic from our salad ranges and instead use sustainable
and renewable cardboard containers.
Also returning to the menu full-time is the chain’s Smarties McFlurry, which is also available in two sizes. The chain says they will also be removing the plastic from our McFlurry packaging, swapping the plastic lid which will remove 383 metric tons of plastic annually.
“We continue to look for solutions for our cutlery and lids, for example, but this is great progress. For us, sustainability is about more than just packaging. We have to look at the whole journey – by 2030 we’re committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 36%,” McDonald’s UK & Ireland supply chain director Beth Hart said.
McDonald’s bacon roll voted the best on the high street
In a Metro report, McDonald’s bacon roll was also voted the best on the high street by independent recommendation site Checkatrade.
Speaking to a panel of tradespeople, including decorators, electricians and plumbers, the site revealed that nine out of ten people voted for the item based on its appearance, flavour and price. The roll came top after six high street bacon rolls were tested against each other.
