Burger King Russia issues apology for World Cup ‘impregnation' ad
The brand promised free Whoppers to Russian women if they get impregnated by World Cup players.
Burger King Russia has apologised for offering a lifetime supply of Whoppers to Russian women who get pregnant by World Cup players.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the fast food chain promised a reward to women who get 'the best football genes' and 'ensure the success of the Russian team for generations to come', offering women impregnated by players 3 million Russian roubles (equivalent to £35,745) and a lifetime supply of Whoppers.
Critics assailed the offer as sexist and demeaning. The announcement was removed within the day of its posting from Burger King's social media accounts, but remains in circulation mong Russian social network users.
“We offer apologies for the announcement we made. It was too offensive,” the fast food company said on social networking site VK - Russia's equivalent to Facebook.
