Costa Coffee launches contactless reusable Clever Cups

The new cup is part of their initiative to have their stores and customers to refrain from using single-use cups.

Costa Coffee has launched its Clever Cups, contactless reusable cups that are inserted with credit card and payment services provider Barclaycard’s bPay payment technology that allows a customer make purchases.

The contactless chip in the silicon base can be removed when washing the cup. The coffee chain will also donate £1 to the Costa Foundation for every Clever Cup sold.

“Contactless technology has become increasingly prominent in our daily lives and through the launch of the new Costa / Barclaycard Clever Cup we hope to appeal to those tech-savvy customers to help facilitate and drive environmentally friendly behaviour,” Jason Cotta, managing director at Costa Coffee, said.
