Pret A Manger trials digital labelling, beacon tech in Houndsditch store
They are also trialling a new app with an order-ahead feature.
Pret A Manger is trialling a number of digital innovations at Houndsditch site in London.
The trial includes digital labelling on shelves and a new payment solution through an app that allows consumers to select products and pay without going to the cash register.
The new app also has an order-ahead feature, whilst the venue offers self-service tills with coffee machines placed near it to help order pick-up.
In his CEO blog, Pret chief executive Pano Christou cited incorporating different payment methods as one of his key focus areas for the chain's future.
The 133 Houndsditch store is also trialling beacon technology on the tables.
Jambon beurre pulled
Pret recently removed its Jambon beurre ham sandwich from shelves due to concerns over the quality of the bread.
The high street retailer told i on Friday that the snack, which costs under £3 nationwide, is not currently available, but should make a comeback in the near future.
"We aren't happy with the quality of the losange for the jambon at the moment so it's not available right now," Pret explained to i. "We hope this hasn't left you in too much of a pickle and we hope to have them back very soon."
