What You Lookin' At? Pizza Hut's New Retina Tracking Menu Launches
World's first Subconscious Menu launched to coincide with new Pizza Hut Restaurants menu.
Pizza Hut has been working with Tobii Technology for six months to build the world's first digital menu which is completely controlled by customers retinas.
The menu will feature images of 20 ingredients most commonly found across the chain's pizzas e.g. fresh peppers, chorizo, pepperoni, chicken. After just 2.5 seconds the Subconscious Menu will know which items the user has been looking at for the longest amount of time, and will use an algorithm to identify, from some 4896 possible combinations, the customer's perfect pizza.
Customer trials have received positive feedback with 98% of people being recommended pizzas with ingredients they love.
Dr Simon Moore, a chartered consumer psychologist explaining the psychology behind the menu says "it's certainly the case psychologically that "we eat with our eyes". Quick brain responses are probably hardwired to our evolutionary survival reflex".
Kathryn Austin, Head of Marketing said "This year we've redesigned restaurants up and down the country and launched a brand new menu...We wanted to try a few ideas on the traditional menu format and we're delighted to have developed the world's first Subconscious Menu, a unique way to reinvent the dining experience".
