Starbucks Teams Up with non-profits, Trains Young Adults
The coffee chain will be teaming up with local non-profit The Challenge to create more opportunities for young people.
As part of the ongoing volunteer support program “Open Starbucks”, baristas and store managers will help young adults with practice interviews, resume reviews and tips for landing a first job.
“Open Starbucks” is the name of the program because it symbolizes “Starbucks opening our doors and providing a behind-the-scenes look at our business to help young people learn,” Nicky Gaskell, senior manager with Starbucks UK, said.
Starbucks partnered with non-profits around the world to provide mentoring activities throughout the year, with this month being emphasized as the Starbucks’ Global Month of Service.
This year, a majority of the volunteer efforts will support Opportunity Youth – young people ages 16-24 who are not employed or in school. Starbucks said that it plans to hire 10,000 Opportunity Youth by the year 2018.
An estimated 40,000 Starbucks partners, with half of them outside the U.S. will take part in community service work.
