Pret A Manger rolls out coffee cup recycling scheme to 350-plus shops
The move follows earlier trials in London, Leeds and Glasgow.
Pret A Manger announced that it has rolled out its coffee cup recycling scheme to over 350 UK shops. The chain says almost 90% their shops nationwide now have a recycling point on the shop floor, with customers able to leave any paper coffee cup for staff to recycle.
The recycling points are mostly available on shop floors, making them more visible to customers and passers-by.
Collaborating with waste management companies, Pret says the recycled materials will then be used to create high quality stationery and packaging products.
The initiative follows a string of sustainability moves from Pret. In January 2018, the chain doubled its discount for customers who bring in their own reusable cup to 50p, which they say resulted in usage increasing almost 20-fold.
Pret adds over 150,000 drinks are now served in reusable cups weekly, equivalent to customers saving over 6 million paper cups since January 2018.
They are also part of the Valpak scheme, a nationwide cup recycling scheme that funds the collection of paper coffee cups for recycling.
