Some Cooplands outlets in Northeast staying open to support local community
The chain is also organising deliveries to care homes.
17 Cooplands community stores in the Northeast are continuing to serve their local areas as long as it is safe to do so.
"As our world gets smaller for a while, and now the country is in lockdown for three weeks at least, the local neighbourhood bakers will play an even more critical part in community support. We are far more in the community neighbourhoods than any of those food outlets I mentioned and we will continue to serve them as long as we safely can,” Cooplands CEO Belinda Young said in a statement.
The Scarborough-based bakery chain said planning is ongoing to organise local deliveries, with Cooplands partnering with milkmen and women as well as organising deliveries to care homes, retirement homes and doctors’ surgeries.
"While our role in serving our communities through these dark times is very important, the safety of our staff remains paramount in our minds and we are making decisions daily to support them in all areas, production, administration, drivers and shop staff,” Young added.
The 17 Cooplands stores staying open for now are: Guisborough, Skelton, Marske, Saltburn, Great Ayton, Berwick Hills, Stokesley, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, Acklam, Seaton Carew, Billingham, Ingleby Barwick, Norton, Roseworth, Eaglescliffe, Fairfield and Yarm.
Closed branches are located at Redcar, Coulby Newham's Parkway Centre, Middlesbrough's Dundas Arcade, Gilkes Street and Hill Street Centre, Thornaby, Stockton's Castlegate and High Street, Hartlepool and Whitby.
