Subway begins phased reopening of over 600 stores
New operational and social distancing safety measures will be implemented.
Around 25% or over 600 Subway stores will reopen as part its phased reopening, the sandwich chain said in an announcement.
To ensure the health and safety of all guests and staff, Subway has implemented measures including new fixtures, directional signage, enhanced hygiene practices and PPE equipment.
Such measures have already been tested in the small number of stores that have remained open to support and serve key workers and hospital staff over recent weeks.
Stores will also continue to support NHS and key workers, with NHS workers receiving 25% off their orders. The chain is also offering free delivery on orders over £10 placed through Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo.
Subway is one of many chains announcing its reopening moves.
Following its initial 7 store trial opening for takeaway last week, Caffe Nero announced the opening of a further 33 stores as part of that trial, with 14 of them opening this week. All stores will be takeaway only and all stores will offer free hot drinks to all NHS staff.
200 Degrees Coffee’s Carrington Street shop in Nottingham reopened on 11 May.
The Telegraph reported that Burger King will reopen high street outlets as early as this week as the majority of its sites remain shut during the crisis.
Bakery giant Greggs reopened in some parts of Newcastle, as part of a trial which could see it return to business across the UK.
Chipotle reopened their Baker St and Islington restaurants and their Battersea delivery-only digital kitchen.
Shake Shack, meanwhile, opened a Deliveroo Editions kitchen, also in Battersea, last 9 May.
