Asda nixes meat and fish counters for food-to-go
The supermarket company plans to open 150 “Food for Now” counters by the end of the year.
Asda is set to replace its meat and fish counters with ready-to-eat food counters, including sushi, hot chicken and pies.
The move came following the initial trial of the “Food for Now” counters in 13 supermarket stores, along with the launch of a 'food court' style dining feature in one Edinburgh branch.
The supermarket company plans to open 150 of such counters by the end of the year.
Asda has currently secured deals with Subway and Sushi Daily to bring their food items in the new counters and eyes to bring in more brands.
Also, YO! recently announced it is rolling out manned kiosks at 10 Asda stores in February.
"The popularity of our sushi concessions and international cuisine, along with 'Food for Now' options shows there has been a shift in customer behaviour and there is a need to provide a greater choice in our stores, Asda’s Food for Now senior manager Elizabeth Ruddiman said in a statement.
