Just Eat launches €50k funding for alternative takeaway packaging
The packaging was created by sustainable startup Notpla.
Online food and delivery brand Just Eat has announced that it has launched a €50k fund as part of a price-match initiative to further promote the roll-out of seaweed-coated takeaway packaging created by Earthshot UK Climate Prize winners Notpla across its restaurant partner network in Ireland.
Called the Just Eat Notpla boxes, this packaging has been designed with a seaweed-based coating and is water-resistant and greaseproof to ensure it can be used as food packaging. It is both fully recyclable and will biodegrade within four to six weeks in a home compost.
To promote the use of the packaging, Notpla packaging was made available for selected food vendors operating at the Aviva Stadium during the Leinster’s Champions Cup clash against Racing 92 on 21 January 2023, in relation to Just Eat’s sponsorship with Leinster Rugby
Plans to roll out the packaging for food vendors at the RDS for all of Leinster’s remaining home fixtures this season is already underway.
