Greggs issues statement on Bakery Outlet format
The brand stated that its Bakery Outlet format, which sells products unsold the day before at a discounted price, will not be a priority in its business model. Instead, Greggs said that they are looking to focus on increasing the amount of unsold food donated to charity.
Greggs spokesperson said: “At Greggs we pride ourselves on our daily-fresh approach to food, and while we have operated a Bakery Outlet format that sells unsold food to customers the following day at discounted prices for a number of years, this is not a business priority and there are only 14 within our estate. Our long term focus is to increase the amount of unsold food that we donate to charitable organisations.”
According to Greggs, its sandwiches are made in each shop daily, it bakes savouries throughout the day for freshness and its sweet range, which includes cream cakes and doughnuts, are also daily-fresh products. These daily-fresh products are not carried over to the next day at Greggs shops. Greggs only has 14 Bakery format shops (total number of shops 1,698) which sell products the next day at a discounted price.
