Greggs suspends shop opening programme
The bakery chain has revealed a list of its 800 shops reopening this week.
Citing uncertainty in their sales outlook, Greggs has temporarily suspended its new shop opening programme, according to an update.
Exempted are a few shops where they are “already legally committed” or where they “anticipate strong customer traffic.”
They now expect to open 60 shops and close 50 over the year as a whole.
Greggs has also reviewed its existing estate and are approaching landlords with proposals in return for rent reductions.
“All landlords have been informed of our plan to move to monthly rent payments from June. We made our full quarterly rent payment in March as usual,” it said.
The bakery chain looks to accelerate its development of delivery and click & collect services. Currently, only 19 of the 800 shops that will reopen are capacitated for both.
The shops reopening this week are found on their website.
