What You Need to Know from McDonald's Landmark Economic Impact Report
Estimated to have contributed £40 billion to UK economy over 40 years.
McDonald's has published a report on its economic impact on the UK to co-incide with its 40th anniversary and the results make for an interesting read. Key findings include:
- The burger chain and its suppliers are estimated to have contributed £40 billion (2013 prices) to the economy in their 40 years- equal to the combined output of Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff and York annually.
- Their gross value add (GVA) to Scotland is £170 mill per annum, to Wales £126 mill per annum, to Northern Ireland £76 mill and to England £1.7 bill
- They have invested £3.3 billion in new restaurants and equipment over this time period, and average £95 mill per annum
- They, their franchisees and suppliers are estimated to have employed approximately 1.5 million people over four decades, and currently employ 130,600 people
- Yorkshire and Humber benefit most from McDonald's supply chain arrangements receiving £333 mill of their spend
