McDonald’s announces job cuts amidst reorganisation plans
The fast-food giant aims to prioritise its restaurant expansion plans.
McDonald’s is a huge reorganisation that would see job cuts as the company shifts focus on prioritising its restaurant expansion plans, CEO Chris Kempczinski told employees Friday.
According to a company-wide memo, the job cuts aren’t a cost-cutting measure but are intended to help the company innovate faster and work more efficiently. Part of its reorganisation plans will also see the fast-food giant deprioritising and halting certain initiatives, a company-wide memo from the CEO said. What company initiatives will be affected, however, is still unclear.
Last week, McDonald’s said it plans to speed up development plans for new restaurants. The company however has not yet mentioned how many restaurants it plans to open this 2023 but in November, McDonald’s said that new units would contribute about 1.5% to its system-wide sales growth in 2022.
Communications on the decisions on the layoffs will be finalised and communicated by 3 April, the CEO said. McDonald’s has yet to release how many jobs would be affected.
