Pizza Hut announces pledge to serve antibiotic-free chicken by 2022
They previously committed to cut the use of artificial preservatives from cheese last year.
Pizza Hut has announced its commitment to serve chicken raised free of antibiotics by 2022.
The pledge consists of all chicken, including the wings, at all Pizza Hut and WingStreet locations.
Health organisations and advocates have previously said that the use of antibiotics in poultry could produce more antibiotic-resistant germs.
“Our customers are our business, and we will continue to push ourselves to ensure that we are delivering the quality food and quality experience our customers expect and deserve,” Pizza Hut chief brand officer Marianne Radley said.
Pizza Hut previously committed to eliminate BHA/BHT from all meats in 2016 and the use of artificial preservatives from cheese in 2017. The global brand also said that it had already eliminated partially hydrogenated oils (or artificial trans fats) and MSG –while removing three million pounds of salt from its ingredients over the past six years.
“The Pizza Hut culinary team has done a terrific job of listening to the voice of the customer, and have worked tirelessly to mind emerging health trends while not impacting the great taste that makes our food so special,” Radley added.
