Bun House to open second site in Chinatown London
The steamed bun street café's upcoming outlet will open in February, coinciding with Chinese New Year celebrations.
Bun House is going to Chinatown London, after signing a 1,300 sq ft site at 26-27 Lisle Street.
Spanning two floors and with space for 72 covers, the new site is a second, larger location for the brand following their inaugural site in Soho. Designed by co-founder Z He’s Five Line Projects, Bun House in Chinatown will reflect their colonial style, with dark wood highlighted by brass fixtures and comfortable rattan furniture.
The brand is known for their traditional Cantonese steamed buns, with two new additions to the menu; beef brisket and a soft, brioche style pineapple bun. They will pay homage to Hong Kong’s dai pai dong food stalls through a small hatch serving traditional street food style snacks, such as curried fish balls and cheung fun.
For drinks, the brand will work closely with breweries such as Moonzen and Young Master to offer a range of craft beers, as well offering as a menu of tea-based cocktails and cold brewed tea.
"We are delighted to welcome Z He and Alex Peffly’s Bun House to Lisle Street in Chinatown London. Their signature steamed bao include both hot and savoury traditional Cantonese flavours and also cult favourite sweet custard fillings, making them an exciting new addition to London’s leading destination for East Asian cuisine. Z and Alex’s design backgrounds will also add a fresh creative aesthetic to Lisle Street and a new twist to the evolving voyage of discovery in Chinatown London, where East meets the West,” Julia Wilkinson, Head of Group Restaurant Strategy at Shaftesbury, said in a statement.
