Greggs eyes expansion over 3,000 UK sites despite profit slip
It plans roughly 120 further net openings in 2026.
Greggs sees potential to expand well beyond 3,000 UK shops over the long term after reporting total sales of £2.2b in 2025, up 6.8% year-on-year (YoY).
Like-for-like sales in company-managed stores rose 2.4% YoY.
However, preliminary results for the 52 weeks ending 27 December showed a decline in profitability.
Underlying operating profit fell 4% to £187.5m, and underlying profit before tax dropped 9.4% to £171.9m.
Underlying diluted earnings per share decreased 10.7% to 122.8p.
The chain added 121 net new shops in 2025, bringing its total estate to 2,739 as of 27 December.
It plans roughly 120 further net openings in 2026 and is trialling a smaller “bitesize Greggs” format aimed at locations where a full-size shop may not be practical.
