Byron owner acquires Mother Clucker chain
The brand specialises in tea brined, buttermilk soaked, twice battered fried chicken.
Byron owner Famously Proper has acquired fried chicken chain Mother Clucker.
The move will see founders Ross Curnow and Brittney Bean leave the business, which was started by the pair in a converted US Army ambulance in 2013.
The chain now operates sites in Clerkenwell and Stanstead Airport alongside street food pitches in London and Deliveroo Editions sites.
“We have been looking for a premium, market leading chicken brand since we formed the new company back in August 2020,” Famously Proper CEO Simon Wilkinson said.
“We admire the work that the Mother Clucker team have done over the years as an innovative and pioneering brand, just like Byron, and will sit perfectly within our company. We can’t wait to get to know the team and continue the journey of bringing Mother Clucker to more locations.”
“After eight years frying chicken in food markets, parking lots, pubs, bars, airports, shopping malls and a permanent shop or two, we’re really excited to hand over the reins of Mother Clucker to the team at FPL,” Bean added.
“The most important thing to us was that the community we created, both...regular fans and internal team, was valued and FPL is committed to doing just that. It’s a perfect partnership in our eyes and we’re excited for the next chapter,” Curnow said.
