Domino's Pizza Group reports 4.5% system sales growth
The company also said it no longer expects its international business to break-even in 2019.
Domino’s Pizza Group released its trading report for Q1 this year, noting a 4.5% rise to £324.4 million in group system sales from £311.1 million of the same period last year.
UK system sales are up 4.7%, with like-for-like sales up 3.1% and online sales up 8.5%. ROI system sales are up by 7.4%, with like-for-like sales up 6.8% and online sales up by 18.5%.
A total of 11 stores opened year to date, seven of which are in the UK, taking the group’s overall store count to 1,271.
“With continued like-for-like growth, the year has started well across our core UK and Republic of Ireland markets, which account for 90% of our business,” Domino’s UK CEO David Wild said.
“Our digital expertise remains a key driver of customer engagement, with online accounting for a record 81.7% of total sales in the UK. We remain in open and ongoing dialogue with our UK franchisees, actively exploring win-win solutions for stimulating growth and new store openings.”
Wild, however, expressed disappointment with the performance of its international markets, with sales dropping 2% to £25.1 million (€29.4 million) for the quarter ended March 31.
“Given persistently weak system sales in all our international markets we no longer expect this part of our business to break-even this year. We are therefore further tightening our focus on international costs and capital deployment,” he said.
