Domino's sees slower growth in FY2019

Pre-tax profits fell.

The franchisee of Domino’s in the UK and Ireland said its sales were up 4.8% to £1.2 billion in the year ending December 2019, lower compared to the 7% sales growth it reported for 2018.

In its trading update, the pizza chain said its pre-tax profits were down 13.8% to £75.1 million.

Like-for-like sales grew 1.9% per cent but the orders fell 1.8% and items per order fell by 1.6%.

There were 32 new store openings in 2019, made up of 28 stores in the UK and four in Ireland, and one planned UK store closure. Three of the new UK stores were corporate and 29 were franchised by 23 different franchisees.

Domino’s is currently on the search for a new chair, chief executive and chief financial officer amidst a dispute with franchisees.

It previously said it is pulling out of European markets to focus on the UK and Ireland.
