KFC's turnover plunges following chicken shortage
Profit after tax fell by 27.8%.
KFC's turnover and profits fell in 2018, which saw a "distribution crisis" affecting more than two thirds of its restaurants for almost a week.
The Yum! Brands-owned fast food chain saw turnover for the period ending 23 December 2018 at £207.3m, 73% less from £445.7m in 2017.
Profit after tax was £129.9m, 27.8% lower than £171.9 in the previous year.
In their latest financial report, KFC said they started 2018 with a "strong" same store sales growth performance prior to the distribution crisis.
"Closure of stores and operating on a limited menu during the height of the distribution crisis resulted in an overall sales decline for the year with the same store sales growth -6.8%," it said.
The company says they "steadily" recovered transactions, returning to positive sales growth by the end of the year.
