McDonald's UK touchscreens contain faecal bacteria, report claims

The fast food giant stressed that their self-order screens are cleaned frequently.

The touchscreen machines in McDonald’s is discovered to have contained traces of gut and faecal bacteria, according to an investigation conducted by Metro.

In their report, they said that a screen tested in one branch has the staphylococcus bacteria that may lead to blood poisoning and toxic shock syndrome. They also found listeria bacteria that causes miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Other bacteria found in the touchscreens mentioned can also cause urinary tract infections, septicemia and diarrhea.

"Our self-order screens are cleaned frequently throughout the day with a sanitiser solution. All of our restaurants also provide facilities for customers to wash their hands before eating," a McDonald’s spokesperson told QSR Media.
