Pret A Manger vows ‘meaningful change' in labelling following allergy death
Their CEO is also hoping that the said incident will bring change in the industry.
Pret A Manger has vowed to make changes in their labelling policies following an inquest about the teenager who died after eating one of their baguettes that contained allergens.
In a statement, Pret CEO Clive Schlee said that they have been working with the government, regulatory authorities and charity groups to ensure that people with allergies are protected.
The chain will be trialling their new labels next month on packaging that shows their offerings’ ingredients.
“We recognise there is much more we can do. We will start trialling new labels which show full ingredients, including allergens, on packaging from next month. This will be rolled out to all UK shops as quickly as possible,” Schlee said.
He also announced that in a few weeks, they will be posting allergen warning stickers and signs on their products and shops. Pret will also be adding full ingredient information of all of their products in stores and online.
“I hope this sets us on course to drive change in the industry and ensure customers with allergies are as protected and informed as possible. Nothing is more important to Pret right now,” he added.
