Treasury officials eye extension of ‘latte levy' to soft drinks and shakes

Fast food giants are said to be the most affected if the tax pushes through.

Treasury officials are planning to put an extension to the proposed ‘latte levy’ that will not only impose a 25p tax on disposable coffee cups but as well as on soft drinks and shakes.

In a report from The Sun, campaigners fear that the increased pricing brought by the proposed tax will be a “slap in the face”.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond stressed that the ‘latte levy’ will be directed to lessen plastic waste problems and to encourage recycling initiatives.
